YAMBO LAGOON

LOCATION




It is located in the limit of Tungurahua and Cotopaxi, in Panzaleo parish. The Yambo Lagoon has an extension 1100 meters long by 290 wide.



FLORA AND PHAUNA

Flora

Its ecosystem is composed of cacti, molles, puyamatas, eucalyptus, cabuyas; Original plants of the Andean dry wastelands. On the beaches of the lagoon we find totorales.

                            
Phauna
In its waters nest species such as polychromatic fish, white herons, patillos, partridges and the odd guanta.



YAMBO LAGOON'S LEGEND


One of the stories that was born in this place is that of the 'infernal train'. And it is that in the presidency of Eloy Alfaro, one of the first locomotives that circulated around the Laguna fell into the water and no one could be saved, that is why those who have camped on Good Friday assure to hear the cries of desperation of the ' ghosts' who are still looking to leave. In addition, on one side of the lagoon is a mountain, where the panzaleos performed all their rites of war, and before going to face the enemy in defense of their territory, they made rhythmic protocols of combat with drums.

ACTIVITIES

Among the activities that visitors can perform in this place are: Hike, camping, horseback riding, In this place there are boats so that people can take a walk in the lagoon. Yambo has a lookout, people can observe and take pictures of the lagoon from there.


And for those who wish to have a different experience, they can opt for the activities offered at the 'Yambo' Adventure Complex. In this place they practice painball, sport fishing, children's games, canopy of 100 meters long and giant swings of 12 and 22 meters There is also a picnic area and it is possible to observe animals such as horses, sheep and ostriches.


This complex also offers a walk through the water in a "chiva marina" with capacity for 40 people, from where you can observe the flora and fauna and listen to the legends of the yambo lagoon.
